one half (variable)(variable) squared

I'm in a physics class right now. It seems like everything in physics involves the same formula:

1/2 * X * Y^2

that is, half the first variable, times the second variable squared. Here's a little contest: I'm going to list formulae that include this system, and let my readers figure them out!

1/2 MR^2
1/2 KX^2
1/2 AT^2
1/2 Iω ^2
1/2 αT^2
1/2 MV^2

PS. what is up with the math lettering system? Using X and Y as the most commonly used letters is insane. It's incredibly easy for an x to look like a y, and vice-versa. W stands for like three things, and so does T. It's like crazy people thought up the notation for physics stuff. Or maybe people with a truncated alphabet.

Photo Contest Rules

To see only the photo contest entries on this blog, click here.

The contest rules are simple: every week, some people I know and I go out and take pictures based on a topic. The photos are due Sunday. My personal goal is to have the photos up weekly by Monday morning. We submit them to your judgment, the losers are shamed, and the winners are inscribed in the hall of heroes forever, or at least for a week.

To vote for a picture, go to the "comments" section beneath the post, then write your name/alias and your choice of photo.

If you want to join the contest, drop me a line in the "comments" of this post.

I Am The Loser

Although we still have to tally the votes, one thing is certain: I lost the most recent photo contest. I'm not too surprised that I lost, since my photo was at best mediocre, and arguably off-subject. The thing that I didn't expect was to get only one vote. Among more than 30 people, only one of them was drunk enough to choose my picture.

Here, to be remembered forever, is the only vote that my peeps won. Names have been obscured to protect the identity of someone who was clearly high.

EDIT: Since this post, there have been two anonymous votes for my peeps. I appreciate the support, everyone.

RESULTS:

I won this one with "Rust". Hooray for me!

Photos

The first photo contest was a qualified success: the posting and voting went fine, but I lost.

There is a new plan, though: Every Sunday, we'll get a subject from the internet, then we'll have until the next Sunday to put up a picture regarding it. While voting on the previous week proceeds, we'll take pictures for the next week, and so on.

Judgment Day

The pictures are taken. Judge ye, that we may be judged.

Rules for voting:
1. Clearly indicate which of the two following pictures is the greatest in the comments section.
2. Sign a name. Your name, or some alias by which I will know you.
3. No cheating.
4. The winner will be determined by who gets the most votes.

The first picture is:

The Act of Water Hitting More Water

The second picture is:

Bird of Paradise

To see an enlarged version of a picture, just click on it.

PS. This is post number 200. WOOOOOO!

RESULTS:
"The Act of Water Hitting More Water" won this one with a rather large margin.

Time's Up!

Spring Break is over, the pictures have been taken. Soon, we will discover who has taken the greatest picture of all time. I have chosen which picture I will submit, but I don't think it's the greatest of all time. We'll see.

I expect to have the pictures up by the end of the week. Good luck to everyone involved. (Particularly me).

The Great Spring Break Photo Contest

To show that my opponent has no photography skillz, I have begun a contest. The rules are simple: the first person to take the greatest photo in history wins. The contest lasts across Spring Break. On Sunday night or Monday morning, we should have the photos posted for judging by our panel of people who happen to go to my weblog.

PS: Another person has joined into the fray, so there will be three pictures at the end of Spring Break.

Quote Contest III

OK. Another themed quote contest. Every quote has two commonalities: they all feature the same word. That word has been blanked out in each quote. They're in order of difficulty. The quotes are worth a point, and so is the mystery word.

1) "And I'm his good friend ______!"

2) "I feel like I was mauled by ______."

3) "So, you guys don't believe in Robot ______?"

4) "Sweet Zombie _____!"

5) What is the mystery word?

Themed Quote Contest

This is a very special Quote Contest. Same rules as normal, with one addition: guess the theme, win another point! Wooo!

1. "I swore I'd love you 'till the end of time... so now I'm prayin' for the end of time."

2. "Is this the real life, Or is this just fantasy?"

3. "To mold a new reality, closer to the heart. Closer to the heart!"

4. "The color of infinity's inside an empty glass."

Quote Contest Issue

The problem with choosing quotes for the contest is Futurama. A single episode will have easily twenty good lines.

Futurama is just too good.

Quote Contest I

I've decided to start off with four people, with varying levels of difficulty. At least one is un-googlable, so far as I know.

I'd appreciate it if everyone just went with their brains, not their g00gle skillz, but it's unrealistic to ask that. I guess I'll just ask people to point out if they got an answer from g00gle when they write it in. You'll get full credit, but I'll mock you.

Here we go!

1. "Indignity? I'll have you know I work for the President of the United States of America!"

2. "You're a cigarette."

3. "If you're looking for trouble, you've found it." & "Pizza Pizza. Pizza Pizza. Pizza Pizza."

4. "Just imagine, if you will, what kind of delicious suffering awaits you at the hands of the most powerful milkman in the universe."
