Federal Funds

One Trillion dollars is the price of buying out the latest incarnation of the Great Depression, according to the Bush Administration. The reason that solar panels are as expensive as they are is because they can not use economies of scale. If there was a large order for solar panels, we would see a reduction in price. We could spend 10 billion dollars on solar panels to make every federal building more self-sufficient. It'd be an investment for the future, and it'd give the industry a huge kickstart.

if there is going to be anything that kick starts a solar movement it is the government. i have some friends looking into "solarizing" there house and if they buy 25,000 dollars worth of equipment the government (state and fed) will combine to reimburse them around 16000 dollars.

Policies like this are good. Apparently Germany lets people sell their energy to the electric company for more than it's worth, so as to build the energy economy. I doubt that the congress, so deeply beholden to the energy business, would pass such a law, but it'd be nice.

well actually if you push energy back to the energy company (like you would with solar panels) you do get reimbursed. it isnt a law just something i believe ecel energy does.

The difference in Germany is that the energy company is compelled to pay MORE than the value of the energy.
