Alien Swarm is a fun game, and it's free. It has shooting aliens, and it's free. It gives you a hat in TF2, and it's free. It has Achievement Grinding, and it's free. Did I mention it's free? It's on Steam. Go get it.
I was going to write more, but I'm off to play some Alien Swarm.

It's a great game, with superb production values, animation, atmosphere, variety, weapon loadouts but it died pretty quickly.
The notion that community would create campaigns which people would play was pretty silly.
Perhaps if it had automatic map download within the game like Killing Floor....
